This workshop includes guidance on how people with disabilities can work and maximize earnings without losing Social Security benefits. It provides information about the two main types of Social Security benefits, SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). You will learn about the effect of earned income on SSI and the four work incentive programs that allow a recipient to reduce countable income.
Also, you will learn about the work incentives for people who receive SSDI and the concept of “substantial gainful activity” limits and the factors that Social Security considers when determining SGA.
This workshop is led by David Edwards, who has been a Certified Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC) for 12 years. He is the Work Incentives Planning Assistance (WIPA) Director at the Center for Accessible Living, which is the Independent Living Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Continuing education credits are available for credit counselors through the Society for Financial & Career Consulting Professionals (SFCCP) and National Association of Certified Credit Counselors. (The NACCC charges a $50 fee for the CEUs).
